Vintage from the 1970s Materials: oil, wood, cardboard Dimensions: Height: 20 Inches; Width: 16 Inches Sadanand Vachali - Nude Woman with Flowers, 1973 Vachali is an internationally recognized visual abstract expressionist artist, born in 1940, who first acquired critical acclaim in 1965 when he received a National Scholar Award from the government of India and went on to win a British Commonwealth Scholarship. He pursued post graduate work in printmaking stained glass and mural enamelling at the Central School of Art and Design in London. Shortly thereafter settled to live and work in Canada. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections worldwide: India, Canada, U.K., USA, Denmark, Wales, France, Australia, Belgium, Holland, Japan, Singapore, South Africa and many other countries. 'Woman with Flowers' is a piece from the artist's earlier oeuvre of painted works (1973) and possesses a unique quality which is at once sensual but also elegant. The subject's beauty, mirrored in the flower to which she clings, recalls the traditional vanitas theme of the temporal nature of beauty. Her pensive air and distant gaze further lend to the rich metaphorical quality of this brilliantly executed painting.
