Sunbeam Art Deco Chrome Carafe/Pitcher with Black Enamel Striping and Bakelite handle, 1930s The base of this carafe/pitcher has "Chicago Flexible Shaft Co., Chicago USA, Design Patent No. D-92668" impressed on the base. The patent was filed April 19, 1934 by Michael W. McArdle, Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Flexible Shaft Company was founded in 1893 and became an enormous metal products manufacturer. Sunbeam was one of its most successful brand names and in 1946 the company CEO, Caldwell Wright, had the company name changed to the Sunbeam Corporation. ( I found this info on the fabulous website, " Made in Chicago". ) There is a tiny, roughly 1/10th inch, circle of lost black enamel on the widest enamel stripe, and some minor scratches that are not easy to spot.
